I’m currently shopping for gutters (house currently doesn’t have any). I have gotten three quotes, however 3rd said I don’t need a guard because I have gambrel roof. All three offer the same style guard.
If you have an open gutter trough, debris can get in, no matter what roof style you have. In fact, it could be debris from your neighbor’s house that winds up getting blown into your Gutters.

I don’t know what type of gutter guard you’re looking at, but if it’s got openings in it that are visible to the naked eye, it’ll let debris in. Most systems rely on water adhesion to a curve. What you may not be aware of is that when debris becomes wet, it becomes very pliable, meaning it will travel with the water, right around the curve and into the gutter below–sitting hidden–a potential clog just waiting to happen.
After clogging from debris, roof oils are the main way that most gutter guards fail; they coat systems with a residue prone to trapping fine particles of silt, pollen and dirt. In curve systems, water can’t adhere to the aluminum surface the way it’s supposed to.
